Denmark is compact, but its geography includes the Jutland peninsula and hundreds of islands. Freight for Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense or a smaller island can have a different domestic handover. The final postcode and delivery method matter as much as the international flight.

Prepare the Danish importer and EORI
Commercial goods entering Denmark from Australia are imported into the EU. The Danish or EU importer generally needs the appropriate customs registration, commonly including an EORI, and may appoint a representative.
Confirm legal company, CVR or tax details as relevant, broker and payment responsibility. A design showroom, event venue or residential buyer should not be assumed to manage commercial customs formalities without agreement.
VAT, duty and low-value consumer sales
Denmark applies EU customs law and Danish import VAT. Customs duty depends on classification and origin. Qualifying business-to-consumer sales of non-excisable goods in consignments not exceeding €150 can use IOSS when the seller collects VAT at sale and transmits the identifier correctly.
Old low-value VAT exemptions should not be used. IOSS does not cover alcohol, ordinary B2B stock or every ecommerce movement. Confirm who pays any duty, VAT, brokerage or carrier disbursement.
Write a precise commodity description
Describe each product, material, use, quantity, brand or model, value and origin. “Danish design sample” says nothing about the physical goods. Identify whether it is a wooden chair component, wool textile, metal light fitting or electronic device.
For temporary exhibitions or repairs, explain the purpose and ask the importer’s broker about the appropriate procedure. Use serial numbers and a realistic value rather than describing valuable goods as having no commercial value.
Address Danish deliveries correctly
Provide recipient or company, street and building number, floor and side or apartment where relevant, four-digit postcode and locality. Use the Danish spelling supplied by the receiver and add a reachable mobile number.
Apartment and consumer deliveries may rely on digital notifications or collection options. A commercial freight service may instead require staffed receipt. Confirm the delivery method rather than assuming a traditional postal process.
Copenhagen, Jutland, Funen and smaller islands
Copenhagen sits on Zealand and connects by bridge and ferry networks. Aarhus and Aalborg are in Jutland; Odense is on Funen. Larger islands have strong road connections, while smaller islands can use scheduled ferry handovers.
Quote the final postcode and identify any island. Heavy pieces, dangerous goods and time-critical freight may face specific ferry or local-carrier restrictions.
Greenland and the Faroe Islands must be quoted as separate destinations rather than ordinary Danish domestic points because their customs, transport and service conditions differ.
Food, alcohol and consumer products
Food, supplements, plants, animal products and alcohol can require Danish and EU controls. Alcohol and tobacco are excise products, while commercial food may need health certificates, approved entry points and compliant labelling.
Furniture, lighting, toys and electrical goods intended for sale can face EU product-safety and conformity requirements. A customs release does not certify that the item may lawfully be marketed.
Batteries and dangerous goods
Declare lithium batteries, aerosols, perfumes, paints, chemicals and compressed products before quoting. The classification, quantity and packaging affect whether air and island connections will accept the goods.
Provide safety data, battery specifications and test summaries when required. Removing hazard labels or using a vague invoice description is not an acceptable way to gain carriage.
Cartons, designer goods and pallets
Protect finished surfaces against rubbing, compression and moisture. Fragile furniture components or lighting may require a crate or engineered internal restraint rather than a standard retail carton.
Pallets should be stackable where the goods permit, with no overhang and full restraint to the base. Confirm dock, forklift or tailgate needs at the Danish receiver, particularly for inner-city or island addresses.
