Practical
freight guide
FedEx Australia’s official shipping information separates international FedEx services from domestic Australian delivery services provided through TNT. That distinction prevents a common source of confusion: a business may ask for “FedEx” when the actual job is an Australian road-freight movement that appears under a TNT product.
Clever Couriers can compare eligible FedEx international services and eligible TNT domestic options where available, alongside other carriers. The quote will identify the service being offered. Access depends on the shipment and current carrier arrangements, not on every product published by FedEx.
When FedEx may suit an international shipment
FedEx may be relevant for overseas documents, samples, ecommerce orders, replacement parts and selected freight where an international express or economy network fits the requirement. Choose urgency based on the business consequence, not on a vague preference for the fastest label.
A lower-cost international option may be appropriate for replenishment stock with contingency, while a time-sensitive part may justify an express comparison. Neither service removes customs or receiver obligations.
Domestic Australian freight may be TNT
For an Australian pickup and delivery, Clever Couriers may compare a TNT service rather than a FedEx-branded international product. Use the exact carrier and product shown on the quote, label and tracking record. Do not tell a customer that a shipment is using FedEx Express if the booked service is TNT road freight.
Domestic parcel, pallet, long-item and bulky-freight profiles still need their own size, access and packaging assessment.
Express versus economy is not only about price
Consider the ready date, estimated delivery window, customs complexity, replacement availability and cost of delay. A fast international service is most useful when the sender has accurate documents and the receiver is prepared to clear the shipment. Missing values or an unresponsive consignee can erase the time gained in transport.
For a fixed launch, trade show or repair deadline, allow contingency and provide the date during quoting. Estimates should not be represented as guaranteed appointments unless the specific product states that commitment.
Prepare customs information that matches the freight
Use a precise commodity description, quantity, value, currency, country of origin and tariff code where known. Explain material and use. “Plastic moulded enclosure for electronic controller” is more useful than “sample”. Avoid zero or nominal values that cannot be supported.
Confirm permits, sanctions, product standards and import restrictions before dispatch. Clever Couriers can help with carrier questions, but the sender and importer remain responsible for compliance and customs authorities decide whether goods are released.
Package and measure the finished shipment
Protect products with a rigid outer carton, internal cushioning and secure sealing. Use crates or pallets where the freight profile requires them. For multi-piece shipments, apply the correct unique label to each handling unit and keep a piece-level packing list.
Measure after packing, including pallet, crate, wrap and protrusions. International charges may use dimensional weight. An inaccurate package profile can lead to a service correction, delay or additional charge.
Information Clever Couriers needs
- domestic or international route, with complete postcodes;
- piece count, packaging and final dimensions and weight;
- specific contents, quantity and intended use;
- commercial value, currency and country of origin;
- tariff or permit information where relevant;
- dangerous goods, batteries, liquids or restricted contents;
- sender, receiver and importer details;
- duties-and-taxes responsibility; and
- ready time and operational deadline.
Tracking and support
Keep the exact carrier tracking number and Clever Couriers reference. For an international FedEx shipment, tracking may show export, hub, customs and destination events. For a domestic TNT movement, use the TNT service information returned with the booking.
If a shipment needs investigation, provide the last event, complete piece count, invoice and destination contact. Clever Couriers can coordinate with the applicable carrier, but cannot manufacture a scan or overrule border authorities.
Keep any carrier request for information with the shipment record and answer from the same source documents used at booking. Conflicting values or descriptions can create further review.
Reasons another service may win the comparison
A different international carrier may offer a more suitable route or acceptance result, while a dedicated freight service may better suit heavy or oversized cargo. For domestic work, another Australian network may fit the lane, pallet or residential access better than TNT. The purpose of comparison is to select the service, not defend a requested logo.
FreightSafe offers limited protection and is not comprehensive transit insurance. Eligibility, exclusions, packaging obligations and claim limits apply.
Compare FedEx or TNT correctly
Tell us whether the movement is domestic or international and provide the final shipment data. We can compare the eligible carrier services and make the product identity clear before booking.
