The right choice still depends on the handling unit. A boxed spare part, a wrapped pallet and a long fabricated component occupy different vehicle space and may use different services.
Regional express is route-specific
“Express” does not create one identical delivery time across every postcode. Regional freight can travel on scheduled linehaul, pass through a depot and complete its journey with a local delivery run. Use the estimate returned for the exact origin and destination.
If the receiver operates only on selected days or closes early, include those hours before dispatch. Missing a regional run or booked receiving window can add more delay than a similar exception in a capital city.
Pack for transfers and road distance
Use strong cartons for products that can travel as parcels. Immobilise contents, protect sharp or fragile components and seal every seam. For pallets, select a sound base, keep the load within the footprint and secure it as one stable unit with appropriate wrap and restraint.
Long or irregular goods need a rigid handling plan. Protect ends, cover projections and provide safe lifting points. Declare anything that cannot be stacked or that needs to remain upright. Do not rely on a handwritten “fragile” note to compensate for inadequate packaging.

For farms, workshops and sites outside a town centre, explain the accessible receiving point. A standard freight vehicle may not be able to travel on unsuitable private roads, cross restricted structures or unload on unstable ground.
Loading and unloading
Confirm a forklift or dock for pallet freight. If the receiver lacks equipment, request a tailgate-capable service during quoting and verify that the unit is suitable for the available equipment. Tailgate delivery is not crane placement or installation, and it requires safe vehicle access and a firm, level unloading area.
Tracking a regional consignment
Keep the Followmont consignment number, Clever Couriers reference and full piece list. Tracking events may be less frequent between linehaul and a scheduled local run than in a dense metro parcel network. That does not remove the need to investigate a genuine missed estimate; it changes the information needed to do it well.
