Interstate freight is not one service moving at one speed. A carton between Melbourne and Sydney, a pallet from Brisbane to Adelaide and a multi-pallet load into regional Western Australia use different linehaul space, depot transfers and final-delivery arrangements.

Cartons moving interstate
Strong, fully enclosed cartons may suit parcel or general-freight networks. Quote each carton separately when sizes differ and label every handling unit. Packaging must withstand linehaul vibration, stacking and transfers through depots.
A small total consignment can still have one piece that exceeds the selected service limits. Use final packed measurements rather than product catalogue data.
Pallet and crate freight
Pallets are commonly used for heavier, multiple or mechanically handled goods. Keep the load within a sound base, secure it to the pallet and state whether it is stackable. Crates or skids may suit machinery, irregular components and goods requiring rigid protection.
Measure the completed base, load and wrapping. Tall or non-stackable pallets occupy more linehaul space and can change both service eligibility and cost.
Dedicated or larger-load transport
A dedicated vehicle may suit urgent, fragile, oversized or high-consequence freight, or a load large enough to occupy significant truck space. Vehicle choice depends on total dimensions, weight distribution, load restraint and access.
Dedicated transport is not automatically a crane, two-person or installation service. Those requirements need to be defined and quoted.
Major corridor and regional differences
Capital-city corridors often have frequent linehaul options, while regional and remote endpoints may rely on connecting depots or scheduled local delivery runs. Enter the full collection and delivery suburbs and postcodes; city names alone are not enough.
Tasmanian routes, long east–west lanes and northern regional deliveries can involve different operating patterns. Do not apply an east-coast metro estimate to every interstate job.
Collection preparation
Have the freight packed, labelled and accessible during the collection window. Confirm the site contact, opening hours and equipment. If a forklift is needed, it must be suitable for the load and available when the driver arrives.

Tracking may show collection, depot processing, linehaul movement, destination-depot arrival and delivery. Scans are events rather than continuous location data. A gap between depots can be normal while the freight is on linehaul.
Estimated transit can be affected by collection cut-offs, weekends, weather, capacity, road conditions and receiver availability. Allow contingency around installations, events and stock commitments.
Recurring interstate lanes
For regular freight, record verified package or pallet profiles, standard pickup hours and receiver rules. This reduces repeated data entry and makes exceptions easier to identify. Recheck measurements whenever packaging or pack quantity changes.
