South Korean express imports often depend on a receiver-specific customs identifier as well as an accurate local address and phone number. If the recipient cannot provide the requested information promptly, a shipment may wait even though the international transport leg has finished.

Confirm the receiver’s customs identity
Individuals importing courier goods into South Korea may be asked for a Personal Customs Clearance Code issued through Korea Customs Service. A business shipment can require the company’s registration and importer information instead. The carrier or broker will advise what applies to the entry.
Use the same recipient name and contact details across the booking, invoice and clearance data. Do not invent a code or substitute another person’s identifier. The receiver should be ready to respond through the courier’s authorised channel.
Provide a Korean-format address
Obtain the five-digit postcode, road-name address, building and unit, recipient name and active Korean mobile number. Include a Hangul address where possible and retain a Romanised version for the export record.
For apartments, state the complex, building and unit. For factories and offices, include the industrial estate, gate or receiving department. A broad city name such as Seoul or Busan is not sufficient for last-mile delivery.
Write a product-level commercial invoice
State what each product is, its material, purpose, brand and model, quantity, value, currency and country of origin. “Electronic accessories” should be separated into chargers, cables, cases or modules, particularly where different tariff or certification rules may apply.
Samples, repairs and warranty replacements still need accurate value and purpose. Keep invoice descriptions aligned with the packing list and the information supplied by the importer.
Origin benefits require evidence
The Korea–Australia Free Trade Agreement may offer preferential treatment for qualifying goods, but shipping from Australia does not by itself establish Australian origin. The product must meet the applicable origin rule and be supported by acceptable evidence.
Ask the importer or customs adviser whether a certificate or declaration of origin is relevant. Do not delay the shipment by attempting a preference claim without confirmed eligibility.
Product controls and Korean standards
Food, supplements, cosmetics, medicines, medical devices, wireless equipment, children’s products and electrical goods can face Korean approval, labelling or safety requirements. Some commercial products may require KC certification or another agency’s clearance.
Send the receiver exact specifications, ingredients and model numbers before booking so they can verify importability. Personal quantities and commercial stock can receive different treatment.
Batteries and air acceptance
Consumer electronics commonly contain lithium cells. Identify whether the battery is contained in equipment, packed with equipment or shipped alone, and provide watt-hour and test information when required. Do not conceal spare batteries among general goods.
Aerosols, chemicals, perfumes and other dangerous goods also need correct air-transport classification. Customs acceptance and airline acceptance are independent.
Delivery beyond Seoul
Seoul, Incheon and the wider capital region contain large commercial and residential delivery markets. Busan, Daegu, Daejeon, Gwangju and Ulsan are major regional centres, while island and remote locations can involve additional local handling.
Jeju and smaller islands should be quoted using the final postcode. Confirm whether the selected service reaches the street address or hands the cargo to a domestic partner.
Plan around Korean business receiving
Large Korean companies, department stores and fulfilment centres can require purchase-order references, vendor labels or scheduled receiving. Ask whether the courier may deliver directly or must report to a nominated logistics entrance. An international door service does not automatically satisfy the customer’s internal receiving procedure.
Courier versus air freight
Courier may suit time-sensitive compliant cartons whose receiver can provide clearance data. Heavier commercial shipments can be assessed as air freight with the importer, broker, airport handling and final delivery defined. Pallets require mechanical unloading or an agreed depot arrangement.
Measure completed pieces and include pallet bases and projections. Korean delivery sites may not accept an oversized pallet merely because it reached the airport.
South Korea shipping checklist
- full Australian collection and Korean road-name address;
- postcode, building or apartment unit and local mobile;
- Hangul and Romanised recipient details where available;
- individual PCCC or business-importer readiness as applicable;
- piece count, packaging, dimensions and gross weight;
- specific commodity, materials, brands, models and quantities;
- value, currency, origin, HS code and reason for export;
- certification, permit, battery or dangerous-goods data; and
- required delivery date and party paying assessments.
