Practical
freight guide

For Egyptian commercial imports, the Advance Cargo Information process changes the order of work. The Egyptian importer obtains an ACID number through Nafeza before dispatch, and that number must be shown consistently on the shipment documents. A correct airway bill with a missing or mismatched ACID is not a complete import file.

Clever Couriers helps Australian businesses compare eligible courier and air-freight options to Egypt. We quote using the real packages, product, final address and deadline while the importer and customs broker manage Nafeza and the ACI submission.

Have the importer obtain ACID before collection

Confirm the Egyptian importer’s legal name, tax identifier, Nafeza status and broker. The importer should validate the foreign exporter’s details and obtain the ACID for the planned shipment before the freight leaves Australia. Do not reuse a number from an earlier consignment.

Nafeza provides an ACID validation facility, and its guidance states that the number is valid for a defined period. Check that the reference is active and belongs to the exact parties and shipment before it is printed or transmitted.

Repeat the identifiers accurately

Nafeza’s published requirements call for the Egyptian importer’s tax ID and the foreign exporter’s tax or commercial registration number on the invoice and bill of lading. The ACID should appear on the invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin where used, health or veterinary certificates, inspection certificates and other external documents.

Use one verified data sheet to populate every document. Differences in spelling, numbers, package counts or values can interrupt matching in an electronic pre-arrival process. Have the importer review drafts before final issue.

Classify the goods and identify controls

The Egyptian broker should confirm the tariff classification from the product’s materials, function, model and use. The code informs duties, tax and whether the goods are subject to registration, inspection or another ministry’s approval.

Consumer and industrial products can involve GOEIC. Food may involve the National Food Safety Authority, medicines and medical devices the Egyptian Drug Authority, and telecommunications equipment NTRA. Agricultural, veterinary and security-controlled products can follow other paths. Approval should be established before dispatch.

Prepare a clear commercial file

The invoice should identify exporter, buyer, consignee, importer, both required registration identifiers, ACID, invoice date and number, detailed goods, quantity, unit and total value, currency, Incoterm, origin and tariff code. The packing list should reconcile every piece and its gross and net weight.

Ask whether Arabic translation, legalisation or specific certification is required for the commodity and entry. No-charge samples, repairs and warranty replacements still need a customs value and explanation. The carrier description should match the customs description.

Budget for the Egyptian assessment

Import cost can include customs duty, VAT, development or service charges, inspection, brokerage, storage and domestic delivery. The result depends on classification, customs value, origin and product treatment. Obtain a current calculation from the Egyptian broker rather than relying on a generic tax percentage.

Agree whether the importer or another party pays destination charges. An international freight rate is not automatically a delivered-duty price, and Nafeza registration does not itself settle duties or product permissions.

Choose Cairo, Alexandria or the appropriate gateway

Cairo is the primary air gateway for many courier and urgent commercial movements. Alexandria and the Suez-area ports are important for maritime cargo. The correct gateway depends on mode, broker arrangement, final governorate and the importer’s operating setup.

Delivery to factories, construction projects or Upper Egypt requires more planning than a Cairo business address. Provide the governorate, city, district, street, building, floor or unit and a local telephone number. Confirm site hours, security, appointments and unloading equipment.

Protect the document-to-package match

Mark cartons and pallets so the packing list can identify them. Measure and weigh finished units and state whether pallets are stackable. If goods contain batteries, chemicals, liquids, aerosols or other regulated materials, provide safety data and configuration for carrier assessment.

Do not dispatch until the importer confirms that the ACID and agency approvals are ready. Changing the shipment after that point may require an amendment or new reference.

Egypt shipping checklist

  • Egyptian importer, tax ID and Nafeza account;
  • foreign exporter registration identifier;
  • validated ACID obtained before dispatch;
  • ACID reproduced on all required documents;
  • commercial invoice and matching packing list;
  • confirmed tariff code, origin and customs value;
  • GOEIC, NFSA, EDA, NTRA or other approval;
  • piece dimensions, weights and transport restrictions;
  • payer for duties, taxes and clearance; and
  • complete address, access and local contact.

Build the transport around the ACI file

Clever Couriers can compare currently eligible services, coordinate booking and assist with tracking. Nafeza, Egyptian Customs and product authorities, with the importer and broker, determine document acceptance, assessment and release.

Rules and schedules can change. Customs or importer delays sit outside carrier transit estimates. FreightSafe supplies limited protection only and is not comprehensive transit insurance.
