Practical
freight guide

CTI Interstate publishes door-to-door road and rail transport across Australia, with experience in palletised freight, machinery and industrial consignments. This makes CTI a practical carrier to compare when the job is larger or more operationally involved than a standard parcel.

Clever Couriers can check eligible CTI Interstate services against other available carriers. The quote is based on the specific lane and handling unit. Access to a CTI service through Clever Couriers is conditional and should not be inferred from every capability listed on the carrier’s website.

When CTI Interstate may enter the comparison

CTI may be relevant for pallets of stock, crated equipment, machinery parts, fabricated products and other business freight moving between Australian states. The road-and-rail profile can be particularly relevant to east-west freight and regular industrial supply.

The service still needs transport-ready freight. A loose machine with oil, exposed controls and no safe lifting point is not ready simply because the carrier handles industrial consignments.

Palletised or non-palletised?

Palletising can give dense freight a defined footprint and forklift access. Choose a sound pallet, centre the load, secure it to the base and prevent movement in every direction. Keep components within the footprint and protect any surface that could be contacted by handling equipment or adjacent freight.

Some non-palletised machinery may be considered, but it needs a stable base and declared lifting method. State whether the item has forklift pockets, lifting eyes, a crate or a skid. Never ask a driver to improvise a lift from a fragile frame or unapproved point.

Road and rail packing considerations

Interstate freight can experience vibration, braking forces and depot transfers. Drain fluids where required and legally permitted, isolate batteries or energy sources as applicable, immobilise moving assemblies and protect protrusions. Dangerous goods, fuel residue and chemicals must be declared accurately.

For a crate, provide the external size and gross weight rather than the dimensions of the equipment inside it. For a pallet, include the complete restrained height. The packed unit—not the bare product—is what occupies the vehicle.

Quote details Clever Couriers will need

  • origin and destination postcodes and full site types;
  • number and type of handling units;
  • finished length, width, height and weight for each unit;
  • clear commodity description and commercial value;
  • pallet, skid, crate or machinery lifting points;
  • stackability, centre-of-gravity and fragile projections;
  • dangerous-goods or residual-fluid information;
  • forklift, dock, crane or tailgate requirements;
  • site operating hours and booking rules; and
  • required arrival date.

Collection and delivery sites

Industrial freight may be physically straightforward at the shipper and difficult at the receiver. Check both ends. A factory with a forklift does not prove that a small workshop, farm or construction site can unload the same piece.

Tell Clever Couriers about narrow streets, unsealed access, overhead restrictions, PPE rules or site inductions before booking. Standard freight pricing does not automatically include crane placement, internal positioning, installation or extended waiting.

Transit planning across long lanes

Use the estimate returned for the exact route and current service. Road and rail movements can be affected by linehaul schedules, weather, network disruptions and remote delivery arrangements. If downtime or a production shutdown depends on arrival, build contingency into the plan and state the true deadline when requesting the quote.

Tracking and exception support

Store the Clever Couriers reference with the CTI consignment number, packing photos and dispatch record. If a pallet is delayed or arrives with an issue, note the visible condition before movement, retain packaging and contact Clever Couriers promptly with the facts.

FreightSafe is limited protection rather than comprehensive transit insurance. Conditions, exclusions, suitable-packaging requirements and limits apply, which is especially important for high-value machinery or consequential downtime.

Plan maintenance and production freight around consequences

If the item is needed for a plant repair, shutdown or installation, tell Clever Couriers what happens if it misses the intended date. The cheapest general-freight option may be inappropriate when a stopped production line costs more than transport. Conversely, paying for urgency does not cure an item that is not packed, documented or ready at the collection time. Nominate a decision-maker at both ends, confirm the real ready time and allow an inspection window before the part is installed.

Keep technical documents with the order record

Do not place the only copy of installation notes, test certificates or lifting instructions loosely on the freight. Send critical records electronically to the receiver and retain them with the booking. If a physical document must travel with the load, protect it in a secure weather-resistant pouch and clearly identify its purpose without obscuring the transport label.
